Craft ideas & fun things to do for children on days off

On days off school, children invariably find themselves short of ideas and searching for ways to have fun and occupy their time. Craft ideas and activities are a great way to keep kids entertained while teaching them invaluable creative, problem-solving, and organization skills.

A great craft idea for children on days off is making collages. Collages involve gathering materials such as scissors, glue, paper, magazines, and other art supplies to get started. Once the supplies are ready, encourage the kids to look for images and colors in magazines to cut out and paste together on a larger piece of paper. This activity helps to develop fine motor skills, builds creativity, and gives children something to be proud of when they look at their final product. As an extra challenge, work with your children to create a theme for their collage, such as seasons, nature, animals, or holidays.

Children can have fun learning about STEM concepts by creating their own DIY science experiments. Research some simple and safe experiments online, such as disappearing colors, rainbow-colored milk, or the lemon volcano. Gather the materials needed and consider making a checklist for the steps that the kids should take in order to complete the project. Not only will they learn how to do a fun experiment but they will also find out how science works and how fun it really can be.

Let’s not forget about the importance of physical activities. Physical exercises such as dancing, jumping rope, running, or even wheelchair obstacle courses are great ways to keep kids moving while having fun. Additionally, you can get creative and make up a scavenger hunt or an animal challenge, where kids have to act out how different animals move and make the sounds that the animals make. This can be done inside (for example, acting out a giraffe munching leaves from a tree) or outside in the backyard or at the park (such as pretending to be a monkey swinging from a swing set).

No matter the activity, the goal should always be to provide children with an engaging and exciting environment in which to learn and explore. Craft ideas and fun things to do for children on days off give children the opportunity to be creative, express their emotions, and most of all, have fun.
